Introduction
Roelie Rossouw started Rossouws Attorneys in Bloemfontein in 1988 as a branch office for Rossouw & Partners, then from Welkom.
During March of 1994 the Bloemfontein branch broke away from the Welkom office to form its own separate partnership. Rossouws Attorneys quickly expanded into a large Commercial Law firm.
In 1997 Rossouws Attorneys was incorporated as a company.
The current directors of the company is Mauritz Holtzhausen, Neria Photolo, Retha Terblanche and Tanya Oosthuizen, with Roelie Rossouw and Hendre Conradie as consultants.
The Company is situated at 119 Pres Reitz Avenue, Westdene, Bloemfontein and focus mostly on commercial, conveyancing and notarial work.
The Company through its directors and consultants have over 40 years’ experience in commercial, conveyancing and notarial matters.
The Company is at a level 2 B-BBEE compliant level, with a 125% B-BBEE procurement recognition level.
Our Attorneys
Mauritz Holtzhausen
Mauritz was born in 1971 in Bloemfontein. He grew up and attended school in Bloemfontein and enrolled at the University of the Free State in 1991.
He received the degree B. Proc in 1994 and started his articles at Rossouws Attorneys in 1994. Mauritz was admitted as Attorney, Notary Public and Conveyancer in 1996.
He practises as a conveyancing attorney and became a director on 1 May 1998.
Mauritz’s fields of expertise include the following:

- Antenuptial contracts
- Notarial bonds
- Sectional titles and Sectional Title

Retha (Margaretha Jacoba) Terblanche
Retha was born on 12 January 1975. She attended school in Cape Town and matriculated in 1993.
She received the degrees B. Iuris in 1996, LLB in 1998 and LLM in 1999.
Retha was admitted as Attorney, Notary Public and Conveyancer in 2002.
She practises as a conveyancing attorney and her fields of expertise include the following:
- Transfer of immovable property ownership
- Registration of mortgage bonds
- Antenuptial contracts
- Notarial bonds
- FICA related matters
Tanya Oosthuizen
Tanya was born on 7 September 1980. She attended school in Pretoria and matriculated in 1998.
She started her articles at Maree and Ferreira Attorneys in 2007 and received her LLB degree in 2008.
She received her Honours degree in Criminology in 2016.
Tanya was admitted as Attorney, Notary and Conveyancer in 2013.
She practised as an attorney, notary and conveyancer and her fields of expertise include the following:

- Commercial law

- Notarial practice
Neria Juliet Photolo
Neria was born on 28 April 1993. She attended school at St Michaels School for Girls in
Bloemfontein and matriculated in 2011.
She commenced her articles as a candidate attorney at Rossouws Attorneys in February 2018
and obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
degree in 2017, as well as her B.Iuris in Financial Planning Law degree in 2014, from the
University of the Free State.
Neria was admitted as a Legal Practitioner of the High Court of South Africa on 8 August 2019 and as a
Conveyancer in 2022. She practises as an Attorney and Conveyancer and her field of expertise is the
Administration of Estates, POPI consultant, Property Law and Conveyancing.
Our Consultants
Roelie (Roelof Johannes) Rossouw
Roelie was born on 30 December 1948 in Reitz. He grew up and attended school in Welkom – Goudveld High School. He attended the University of Pretoria where he studied for the degree of BSC Engineering.
Two years later he enrolled at the University of the Orange Free State where he studied law and more specifically B. Iuris
In 1973 he was admitted as Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary public.
Roelie’s field of expertise lies mainly in Property Law and he can be regarded as an expert in this field.
This is also one of the main reasons why so many financial institutions use him to do their legal work.
Other fields of expertise include:

- Creation of Trusts and Companies and any matters relating thereto

Hendré (Johan Hendré) Conradie
Hendré was born on 23 November 1962 in Welkom, Free State Province. He grew up and attended school in Welkom.
He studied at the University of the Orange Free State. He received his B. Iuris degree in 1983, his LLB degree in 1985 and his LLM in 1986 and was admitted as a practising attorney in March of 1989.
In 1991 he joined Rossouws Attorneys where he started both the litigation and collection departments.
He specialises mainly in Supreme Court litigation matters and more specifically:
- Zoning of properties
- Divorces
- Contracts and commercial matters.
- Further to these matters Hendré also focuses on the following motion court applications:
* Liquidations & Sequestrations
* Divorces
* Appointment of Curators, etc.

Further resources, which are used to enhance our client service strategy, include the following:
- A Company vehicle, which are used by specifically dedicated staff members for the purpose of deliveries in and around Bloemfontein so as to avoid postal delays. We at Rossouws Attorneys believe in going to the client instead of waiting for the client to come to us.
- A company can however not be successful if it only concentrates internally on its own operations.
- It has to be in touch with its environment and the changes taking place therein. It is for this purpose that we at Rossouws Attorneys also believe in forging valuable external networks, which again are used in improving our overall levels of service and advice.
- The Company has a generator in place, for those load shedding moments, to ensure that service delivery is not interrupted unnecessarily.
- We are also a licensed Financial Services Provider and our Financial Services Board licence number is 15246.
- The Company also serve on the following Commercial Bank’s Panel of attorneys, namely Nedbank, ABSA Bank, FNB, Standard Bank, for home loans mortgage bond registrations.
- The Company also serve on Nedbank’s commercial Property Finance panel.
- The Company also attend to covering bond registrations for the business suites for Nedbank, ABSA Bank, Standard Bank and FNB.
- The Company also attend to the cancellation of mortgage bonds for the abovementioned Banks.
